ADAM:
Hi, this is Adam (Hitman97) and I had the pleasure of interviewing some friends of mine. Please welcome
Daryl & Darcy (nnbduke_2000) to the Featured User of the Month club.
Welcome Daryl & Darcy.
BOTH: Thanks Adam great to be here.

1). Tell us all a bit about yourselves.
DARYL: Well Darcy my wife is 38 and I am 37.
Darcy is a full-time hairdresser, and I stay at home. We have been married for 14 years, and have two daughters, ages 12 and 10.
2). What are your interests?
DARYL: Darcy loves to read books, watch
shows like CSI. I like sports, music... basically your
general, everyday stuff....
DARCY: Hey, tell them I sell Avon, also.
DARYL: Yes, dear...*LOL*
3). Your coming to meet each other is an
interesting
story. Would you mind sharing that?
DARYL: Sure, we met originally back in 1977;
our
mothers worked at a bowling alley together. We ended up going to the same middle school and high school. Plus, we actually went to the senior prom together.
Then I dumped her 3 weeks later...yes, honey, I f'ed up breaking up with you. We got back together four years later, and have been together ever since.
4). When did both of you become VH fans,
and what is your favorite song and why?
DARCY: Daryl got me hooked on VH shortly
after we got back together, so I would say its around 1990. Daryl became a fan with the "1984" album, which came
out in our sophomore year of high school. And I know for a fact that Daryl's favorite VH song is "Jump".
5). Really? Why's that?
DARYL: For a few reasons actually, One it was the first song that led me to VH. I didn't really know much
about them until this album. Also, more recently as I was learning to cope with my illness the words in the first stanza really helped to get me
out of my rut and get back to the land of the living.
6). What was the first Van Halen show
either of you, or both of you, ever went to?
DARYL: Well, Adam, the first VH
concert we ever went to was at Alpine Valley 1998 when Gary was the lead singer. It was cool but to us, it didn't really
seem like VH. We did enjoy it. Darcy was excited and although it wasn't Dave or Sammy singing, I was very thrilled to hear "Jump" live.
7). I had the pleasure of meeting both of
you at the Sammy and Dave show at Alpine Valley in 2002.
Have you gotten to meet anyone else from TVHF and/or the Dome?
DARYL: No, we haven't, we really outside of you know only Chelle. Darcy and I remember her from the Dome and now, of course, here. So outside of you and
her, we don't know anyone else.
8). What is the craziest thing either of you have ever done?
DARYL: Boy, I can't think of anything, can you, Darcy?
DARCY: I don't think of us as plain people, we do things....just can't think of anything we have done crazy...
DARYL: Wait, I though of something, we got married!
*(OUCH... Darcy hits Daryl on the head)*
9). What's something about either of you that might surprise someone who's meeting you for the first time?
DARYL: Well, I would say that we are really a nice couple and family. Some people are surprised, I
guess, that Darcy and I stayed married as long as we did. Darcy has a hearing loss, and people say that
there is no way we would make it. Well, I guess we showed them all, didn't we?
10). What is the best trip and/or vacation you've ever taken?
DARYL: We really haven't taken any big trips as a
family. We dream of going to a couple places,
actually. We want to go to St. Louis and see the
Arch, the brewery and Grant's Farm. I love
Clydesdales like Anheuser & Busch stuff. I collect
the
holiday series steins that started in 1980. Darcy
has
seen Grant's Farm and I think the girls would just
love to see that as well. I would love to go into
the
Arch, I think that would be cool. I also would
like
to go to Austria. This is where my family came
from in 1912 from Kirshdorf, Austria. I just think it would
be cool to see where my great-grandparents came from
and learn more about my family history.
11). Imagine with me, if you could go back
to one point in your life and change that one thing. What
would that be, and how might your life be different today?
DARYL: You will see later on, but back in
2001, our lives changes forever. I will leave that until
later. However, having the girls was also a change, as I
am sure it is for any parent.
12). Other than VH, what other music do you
enjoy, and what other shows have you seen? For that
matter, what was the first show you EVER saw?
DARCY: We both like classic rock, and
sometimes we even listen to soft rock. Contemporary Christian
music is played, too. Our very first show was VH with Gary in '98, as Daryl mentioned before.
13). You are active in the TS Alliance of Wisconsin. Please tell us a bit about TS, and how you came to be
involved.
DARYL: Thank you for asking me this
question. TS Alliance of Wisconsin is actually a Community Alliance
of the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. Tuberous
sclerosis complex is a genetic disorder that causes
tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in
the brain, eyes, heart, kidney, skin and lungs.
The true prevalence of TSC is unknown, but its incidence
has recently been estimated to be 1 in 6,000 live
births. This means approximately 50,000
individuals in the United States and more than 1 million worldwide
have TSC. It occurs in both sexes and in all races
and ethnic groups. My involvement is with the
kidneys. I have TSC in other areas as well, but
nothing to the magnitude of my kidneys, or in my case,
kidney. My right kidney was removed in April 2001.
Our daughters are affected, although not as severe as
myself. I am actively involved in Tuberous Sclerosis
doings. We are having a fundraiser this month right
here in our home town. I will say that Darcy has been
the real backbone in dealing with all of this, having
her husband and children affected with the disease.
14). This is kind of similar to Question
11, but a bit different: Go back 10 years ago, knowing what
you know now. What would you have done differently?
DARYL: Well had I known I had Tuberous Sclerosis
I could have had more checkups and maybe been spared the
loss of the kidney and the stroke. I know it would have
always been possible but at least the averages would
have been I my side.
15). Before I close, is there anything else
you would like to add?
DARYL: Adam it has been our pleasure having you
conduct this interview. We both look forward to meeting more of you
hear at Tormented VH Fans.
